  • Why Are Many Schools With Nursing Programs Not Easy To Get Into

The main reason many programs are not easy to get into is because they lack the capacity to teach the number of applicants they receive.

There is a shortage of nurses with masters degrees or doctorates that are willing to teach. There is also a shortage of clinical sites and classroom space. Constricting budgets make it hard to provide the technological facilities required to teach nurses in todays field.

Since there is limited space, nursing programs need to be picky with who they admit. So, many of them only accept the best of the best.

Nursing is one of the most popular college major programs for many students. Nursing programs offer a chance to learn a highly skilled, practical, hands-on career that is in high demand in many areas. Many that that go into nursing also have a passion to serve.

Nursing can also be a lucrative career. Average salaries are often high, even at entry-level. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median yearly salary for registered nurses is $75,330.

For these reasons, many want to go into nursing, but most nursing programs only have enough qualified instructors to serve 100 students or less. This means that competition for admission into nursing programs can be fierce.

Easy Nursing Schools To Gain Admittance To

I’m looking into nursing schools, and even though I had a 3.1 undergraduate GPA, and am retaking my prerequisites because they’re all over 10 years old, I’m curious if there are schools that are known for having easier admittance standards?

I’m willing to live/move almost anywhere!

I got into a community college in NC for an ADN program by doing well on the entrance exam. As long as you meet the other criteria doing well on the exam was the ONLY requirement. The exam was in three parts: math, reading comprehension, and science. They took the top thirty out of I think 150 or so applicants. I studied like mad because I absolutely had to get in this year, and got in the 99th percentile on all three sections. AVOID THE BARRON’S TEST GUIDE because it contained a lot of errors in the sample tests. Good luck.

edit: The program at my school has had well north of a 95% pass rate for the NCLEX over the past three years. Make sure that the program you go for is not only easy to get into, but will actually prepare you for passing this, otherwise it’s worthless to you.

My issue is this: I live in Seattle. The community colleges are impossible to get into. They do admittance based on a variety of criteria, depending upon the school. And, as I’m currently working on the prereqs, I will not have them finished by November which happens to be the cut-off for finishing the prereqs for FALL 2012 admittance for a lot of commie colleges out here.
