Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Msn
We prepare you to care for newborn infants who arrive with a variety of medical needs such as prematurity, birth defects, substance abuse problems, infections, and a variety of chronic conditions. While technically the neonatal period describes the first month after birth, often times these babies will be sick for much longer, requiring lengthy stretches of care to address the challenges laid upon them at delivery. Youll learn to care for infants until discharge and beyond, working with family and support groups to ensure the best quality of life for your patients and families.
We also collaborate with faculty and students in other pediatric graduate programs, increasing the breadth of your exposure to the field and providing you experiences available nowhere else.

The University of Pennsylvania is creating a tuition-free program to prepare and deploy a diverse group of nursing practitioners to provide health care in underserved communities across the U.S.
The program is being established by a $125 million gift from Penn alumnus Leonard A. Lauder, chairman emeritus of The Estée Lauder Companies.
This is the most timely and consequential gift not only for our university but for our country. It is unprecedented in its potential to address Americas most critical need of providing primary health care to all who currently lack it by investing in nurses, former Penn President Amy Gutmann said.
Growing the number of nurse practitioners who are prepared and committed to working in underserved areas is the most practical and inspiring way to ensuring a healthier country. I am grateful and honored that Leonard would make this gift to Penn Nursing and thrilled to know that it will have an immediate impact that will last far into the future.
The Leonard A. Lauder Community Care Nurse Practitioner Program comes as the COVID-19 pandemic has magnified the nations acute shortage of primary care providers and persisting inequities in access to quality health care.

Penn Receives Record $125 Million Donation To Establish Tuition

Penn announced on Monday it has received a record $125 million donation from Wharton graduate Leonard Lauder, which will be used to support a new tuition-free nursing program.
The Leonard A. Lauder Community Care Nurse Practitioner Program will recruit and prepare a group of nurse practitioners to work in underserved communities across the nation. The donation is the largest ever to an American nursing program, according to Penn Today, and aims to address the nations shortage of primary care providers and increase healthcare equity.
Lauder, who graduated from the University in 1954, serves as chair emeritus of the multibillion makeup and beauty conglomerate Estée Lauder Companies. Lauder and his family have given extensively to Penn in the past, including multimillion donations to create and renovate the Lauder Institute and large contributions to the construction of Lauder College House.
Now more than ever, the country needs greater and more equitable access to quality primary care and highly skilled nurse practitioners are the key to making that happen, Lauder said in a Feb. 14 press release.

Este Lauder Scion’s Donation Requires Students To Work In Underserved Areas For At Least 2 Years
byRyan Basen, Enterprise & Investigative Writer, MedPage Today February 16, 2022
The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing received a $125 million gift from a private donor to fund nurse practitioner education, the school announced this week.
Leonard Lauder, a long-time leader at Estée Lauder and a Penn alum, is donating the gift to pay for the full tuition and living stipends for up to 40 NP students annually. The first 10 beneficiaries will be named later this year for the 2022-2023 school year.
Those selected to receive the funding must already be enrolled full-time in a 2-year primary care program. Penn Nursing has three primary care NP programs: adult gerontology, family, and psychiatric mental health. Beneficiaries must commit to spending at least half of their clinical education with a Penn community partner in the metro Philadelphia area, and must spend at least 2 years after graduation working in underserved communities.
Penn Nursing is working with community access centers in such areas to craft educational programming, so that graduates will be better prepared to work there. The donation will also fund some of that work and will be used to create a professorial position to work with the centers, oversee the Lauder program, and assist with the nursing school curriculum.
Lauder focused on NPs because he believes boosting this workforce can help address the dwindling access to primary care providers nationally, Villarruel noted.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Msn
Significant advancements have been made in recent years in our understanding of neuroscience and human behavior and the effective treatment and prevention of mental illness. Yet, despite this progress, mental health issues are often minimized, mishandled, and insufficiently treated, shrouded in fear and shame. There is disparity in treatment across many populations, and a critical shortage of skilled mental health professionals that limits the ability of patients to get the care they so deeply need. Confounding this is a lack of diversity among health care providers who may not adequately understand cultural barriers to seeking care. This is something we are striving to change.
In our program, youll benefit from a holistic approach that blends neuroscience with psychotherapy and psychopharmacology. Youll work alongside faculty and mentors to advocate treatment of the whole person, blending mind and body in the context of the patients psychosocial environment. Youll learn biopsychosocial assessment and diagnosis as well as medication management, all while deepening your skills in psychotherapy, including therapeutic approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy, group/family therapy, and more.
