Ut Nursing Program Ranked Best In State

FNP Board Pass Rate
  • University of TennesseeHealth Science Center

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at the University of Tennessee Health Science Centers College of Nursing ranks as the best program in the state on two important lists that measure quality.

The college has the highest ranked BSN program in Tennessee on U.S. News & World Reports list of undergraduate nursing programs in its Best Colleges 2022 list.

Nationally, the college ranked No. 43 out of 694 BSN programs listed by U.S. News & World Report, placing it in the top 6% in the country.

Other Tennessee BSN programs that ranked in the top 100 on that national list include the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, at 58, and the University of Memphis, at 96. This is the first year that the magazine has included undergraduate nursing programs in its list.

In another list, the Nursing Schools Almanac ranked UTHSC as No. 1 in Tennessee on its list of Best Prelicensure BSN programs. The Almanac ranked BSN programs by state based on the first-time pass rates of their BSN graduates on the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses, NCLEX®-RN, from 2011-2020. UTHSC had a 97.8%, the highest average first time pass rate in the state for that time period. The average national first-time pass rate for BSN graduates was 90.29% in 2020.

Nurse Salary And Job Outlook

  • Tennessee RNs earn an annual mean wage of $$64,120.
  • Tennessee employs 61,040 nurses.

Tennessee isn’t among the top-paying states for nurses, but the region is home to some of the lowest mean wages for nurses. So, nurses in Tennessee earn about the same than nurses in neighboring states.

It’s worth noting that mean wages don’t determine the wage you could earn. RNs usually earn more if they earn a BSN, so the wages you earn could be higher than those reported by the BLS.

One great part about working as a nurse in Tennessee is that employment numbers meet the national average. Densely populated areas, like Nashville, have the highest concentration of nurses — and higher mean wages.

Are There Opportunities For Graduate Studies After Completion Of The Bsn

The UTC School of Nursing offers a Master of Science in Nursing with concentrations in Nurse Anesthesia, Family Nurse Practitioner and Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. We also offer a post masters Doctor of Nursing Practice for those with an advanced practice degree and a BSN to DNP in Nursing Administrations Systems. Students in this program can also enroll in the Gary W. Rollins College of Business and earn an MBA concurrently.

Important Considerations When Comparing Schools:

If everything goes well, you should be receiving acceptance letters from some — or all — of the schools you applied to. Next comes the hard part: picking where you’re going to earn your degree. You might not have a clear-cut favorite, and that’s ok. Spend some time weighing the pros and cons of each school you’ve been accepted to.

When comparing schools, consider the following:

  • Total cost of the program
  • Financial aid, scholarships, and grants offered
  • Cost of living on-campus or in the area
  • School and nursing program acceptance rate
  • Length of program
  • Program outcomes
  • Accreditation

Academics

Founded in 1794, University of TennesseeKnoxville is a large public research university. It uses its strong ties to the communitythe school, city, and state are behind this universityto provide its 24,000 undergraduates a multitude of opportunities…to further develop our minds. Students find that its a pleasure to learn on this rolling 910-acre campus, and it helps to be just a short walk from downtown Knoxville. But while field trips and nearly 300 study abroad programs play a big part in providing experiential learning, many simply enjoy being on campus: the library is beautiful and has lots of study spaces. Professors make the courses interesting and applicable and strive to make personal connections with each of their students. Along with lectures, students are strongly encouraged to bounce ideas off of each other in discussions and many classes incorporate nontraditional learning methods, such as flipped classrooms, career driven experiences during class time, and bigger projects that have a real world focus . Outside of traditional classes, there are always either seminars we can attend or documentary showings that are informational.
