Doctor Of Nursing Practice

Union University College of Nursing and Health Sciences – Germantown

The Doctor of Nursing Practice Program prepares graduate students for roles in areas of executive leadership, nurse anesthesia, and nurse practitioner. The DNP Program includes clinical experiences in one’s area of practice while incorporating a Christian worldview.

The Nurse Practitioner tracks require a combination of on-line and weekly on-campus sessions. The Executive Leadership option is offered completely online, with the exception of 3-4 day on-campus sessions three times a year.

The post-master’s DNP can be taken as a full-time or part-time track that begins the fall of each year. Students are expected to be on campus for four 1-week sessions during the program with an ongoing online educational process through Moodle. Clinical fellowships are completed in the student’s geographical area coupled with clinical agency support from the institution in completing a DNP Project.

    The Union University College of Nursing and Health Sciences aims to prepare Christ-centered professionals to engage their hearts, minds, souls, and bodies in striving for excellence in healthcare to promote health.     The low, 10:1 student to faculty ratio at the Union University College of Nursing and Health Sciences allows students to connect with their instructors and open doors for personalized instruction and mentoring. It is one of the major reasons why the NCLEX-RN pass rate of the college is more than 90% and the graduates employment rate is 100%.     Admission to Union University is labeled moderately selective by Petersons since only 1,580 of the 2,634 Fall 2018 applicants were successful for 60 percent acceptance odds. Prospective Bulldogs need to finish a 20-unit, college-prep secondary curriculum or the GED. Freshmen must be over age 16 with good moral character. Unconditional entrance requires a minimum 2.0 GPA, 18 ACT, and 860 SAT mark. Early action is reserved for high schoolers meeting 3.5 GPAs or 1020 SAT scores. Grade point averages of 2.3 or better are mandated for transfers with 24 credits or more. The RN-BSN stipulates 2.8 GPAs in associate nursing degrees plus active state licensure. Starting the 18-month BSOL Completion track online demands 60+ transfer credits. International students need a 550 TOEFL or 6.5 IELTS score. The School of Graduate Studies set general criteria of four-year accredited bachelors and GPAs above 2.5. MS in Biology cohorts must have 12 prerequisite life science credits. The Online MBA requires Graduate Management Admission Test scores if GPAs are below 3.0.

    A Flexible Trimester System

    Union uses a trimester calendar, which runs from September through mid-June. Students typically take three courses per 10-week trimester. This system provides the opportunity to take a greater variety of courses and gives students more flexibility in scheduling. That is especially important for health professions students, whose schedules often include a term abroad, internships, research, and community serviceall of which will strengthen your application to professional programs.

    Tuition And Financial Aid

    For 2019-20, Union University has priced full-time undergrad tuition at $16,325 each term or $32,650 annually. Taking 1-11 credits incurs $1,050 apiece. Bachelors majors cover the $500 general student fee each semester. Freshman orientation costs $150. Residing at the Madison County campus dorms like Heritage Hall adds $3,600 for semester rent. All-access meal plans for Brewer Dining Hall are $1,795 extra. UU budgets $1,550 for books and $8,880 for personal needs. Yearly undergrad study equals about $53,550 on-campus and $42,960 at home. Online RN-BSN students pay $470 per credit. Most masters programs bill $500 per credit. The Online MBA is an exception costing $615 per credit.     Study Abroad Experiences That Focus On Healthcare

    Study abroad is an excellent way to develop an understanding of other cultures and to prepare for a future of caring for an increasingly diverse patient population. Health professions students can take advantage of any term abroad, including:

    Admission to the University of Mount Union is on a rolling basis for all undergraduate students. Nursing degree candidates are encouraged to apply for admission as early as possible as space in this program is limited.

    The application review process will include, but will not be limited to, a review of all coursework taken, grades achieved in each course, and overall high school grade point average.

    Direct entry to the nursing program requires at the following academic levels:

    • Admission to the University of Mount Union and
    • A cumulative high school grade point average of a B+ and
    • Grades of B or higher in high school lab-based biology and chemistry coursework or a sub score of 24 or higher on the Science Reasoning portion of the ACT and
    • An ACT composite score of 23 or higherStudents who do not meet the one or more of the Direct entry academic levels and is Admitted to the University of Mount Union will be a provisional admitted student.     The Bachelor of Science in Nursing curriculum, consisting of 128 credit hours, is designed to be completed in four academic years, and follows the Universitys 16-weeks semester for delivery of courses. Components of the curriculum incorporate courses in:

    Early Acceptance Programs With Albany Medical College

    For high school students applying to Union College:

    Union’s Leadership in Medicine program offers early acceptance to Albany Medical College for select students. In this program, students are not required to take the Medical College Admissions Test . The Leadership in Medicine Program is designed for students who want to play a leadership role in 21st-century medicine. The program offers the opportunity to earn bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees in eight years as follows:

    • B.S. from Union College
    • M.S. or M.B.A. from Clarkson University
    • M.D. from Albany Medical College
