Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Certification
The post-masters Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Certification certificate programs are designed for those nurses who have a masters degree in nursing from a program accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or a recognized degree from a foreign academic institution and wish to complete the course work necessary to sit for national certification as an APRN. Students choose a certificate track as a family nurse practitioner, primary care pediatric nurse practitioner, psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner, acute care pediatric nurse practitioner, or adult-gerontology clinical nurse specialist. Upon completion of the advanced practice coursework, one of the following will appear on the student’s transcript: family nurse practitioner, pediatric nurse practitioner, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, acute care pediatric nurse practitioner, or adult-gerontology clinical nurse specialist.
Factors considered in the admission decision include a grade point average of at least 3.00 in upper-division and graduate coursework information derived from academic and professional references professional background and goals and proficiency in the English language. An interview may also be required. The composite picture presented by these factors is an important part of the admission review and decision.

New Nursing School Coming To North Austin Aims To Fill Gaps In Health Care Staffing
AUSTIN A new nursing program is coming to Central Texas, and St. Davids HealthCare hopes it will help meet the demand for care.
The Galen College of Nursing located next to St. Davids Surgical Center in north Austin is welcoming its first round of nursing students in September.
The campus will be located at 1201 W. Louis Henna Blvd. and is designed to cultivate learning with advanced classroom and simulation technology mixed with collaborative and creative space, according to a St. Davids HealthCare release.
The Galen School of Nursing is just one more opportunity, said Sheila Fata, chief nursing executive with St. Davids.

Its a necessary opportunity. Fata says we live in a community where population growth is outpacing qualified health care workers. On top of that, there are lots of programs in Central Texas, but sometimes the waitlist holds up students.
Thats been a bottleneck issue in the past where therere just not enough spaces for qualified individuals who want to be a nurse, said Fata.
Its played out at the University of Texas where students are lining up to become a nurse.
In difficult times, enrollment actually grows in nursing, said Alexa Stuifbergen, dean of the UT School of Nursing. People think about their lives, and they think about the opportunity to make a contribution.

Student Debt Of Nursing Graduates With A Bachelor’s Degree
While getting their bachelor’s degree at UT Austin, nursing students borrow a median amount of $19,500 in student loans. This is not too bad considering that the median debt load of all nursing bachelor’s degree recipients across the country is $23,387.

Master Of Science In Nursing: Alternate Entry
The alternate entry program is designed for the student who has no previous degrees in nursing, who desires a career in nursing practice, and who holds at least a bachelors degree in a discipline other than nursing. The program is fully approved by the Texas Board of Nursing and is nationally accredited. Program options for alternate entry students include Leadership in Diverse Settings, Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
Admission requirements include at minimum a bachelors degree in a discipline other than nursing satisfactory scores on the Graduate Record Examinations General Test, with attention given to the relative balance between verbal and quantitative scores a grade point average of at least 3.00 in upper-division and graduate coursework satisfactory academic and/or professional references personal and professional goals compatible with the purpose of the program and proficiency in the English language. An interview may also be required. The composite picture presented by these factors is an important part of the admission review and decision.
Preparation of a thesis is optional when this option is chosen, an additional three to six semester hours are required.
Facilities For Graduate Work
In addition to the extensive library and computer resources of the University, certain special resources within the School of Nursing provide support for graduate work.
The Cain Center for Nursing Research. The focus of this office is the promotion of funded research by nursing faculty members. The staff provides support and consultation services and compiles information about opportunities for research funding and presentations, including some for which graduate students are eligible. The computer laboratory is used for graduate courses and is available for graduate student research projects. The research office also provides employment opportunities for graduate students interested in experience as research assistants.
The Learning Enhancement and Academic Progress Center. The LEAP Center is a link to a variety of services to optimize student support and development. The center contains a simulation and skills lab, where students practice basic to advanced psychomotor skills, student academic support including individual academic counseling, academic peer tutoring, study skills workshops, and referrals to campus services, and a Computer Testing Center.
Clinical research and practice sites. The School of Nursing has access to a wide variety of private practice, community, and state facilities for field research and clinical placement. These include all major health care facilities in Austin and in several surrounding communities.

Bachelor Of Science In Nursing
This program consists of 125 to 126 semester hours of coursework. All students must complete the University’s Core Curriculum. In some cases, a course that is required for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing may also be used to fulfill a requirement of the core curriculum. In order to meet prerequisites, students must take most of the nursing courses in a specific sequence. Upon completion of the program, students are awarded the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and have fulfilled the prescribed course of study and clinical practice required to take the National Council Licensure Examination for licensure as a registered nurse.
Student Debt Of Nursing Graduates With A Master’s Degree

The School of Nursing at the University of Texas at Austin confers undergraduate and graduate degrees in the field of nursing. As of 2021, the School has 755 students and its current Dean is Alexa Stuifbergen. In 2021, the School was ranked 21st by U.S. News in Best Nursing School’s: Master’s and 23rd in Nursing. The school is located adjacent to the Dell Seton Medical Center, the University’s teaching hospital.

The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing has been a partner in the CTSA since its inception. The School ranks in the top tier of U.S. nursing schools in NIH funding and has an outstanding track record in clinical research, which comprises the vast majority of its NIH funding. The school is the only top tier nursing school in the nation that is not located on a clinical campus. Several faculty have joint appointments in UT Southwestern’s Division of Community Health Sciences.
Future Collaborations
Faculty with joint appointments at UT Southwestern will direct and teach a new course in community-based participatory research, and provide collaboration and consultation in community studies for clinical investigators. UT Austin School of Nursing will also participate as partners in our planned research facility at Seton Medical Center.

But the omicron variant of COVID-19 is presenting itself in a way that mimics the common cold more than the original strains of COVID did, especially in those who are vaccinated, making it harder to distinguish without taking a COVID-19 test.
The main symptoms of the omicron variant according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other sources are the following:

- Night sweats
- Fatigue
Those who test positive for the omicron variant of COVID-19 are less likely to have a loss of taste or smell, when compared to the COVID strains from 2020 and most of 2021.
But they are more likely to have the unique symptom of night sweats.
People arent reporting a loss of taste or smell as much with omicron as they were with previous variants, Dr. John Torres, NBC News senior medical correspondent told the Today Show. But people are reporting night sweats, which is a very strange symptom that they say theyre having.
Symptoms can be similar in vaccinated and unvaccinated patients, but the severity of the symptoms can vary based on a patients vaccination status.

Master Of Science In Nursing
The entering student normally holds a bachelors degree from a program accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and holds a registered nurse license that allows the student to practice as a registered nurse in Texas. Registered nurses with non-nursing baccalaureate degrees may also apply to the Master of Science in Nursing program. Applicants who wish to pursue the primary care pediatric nurse practitioner track must have one year of clinical practice experience as a registered nurse within the last five years at the time of application deadline to be considered for admission. Applicants who wish to pursue the acute care pediatric or family nurse practitioner tracks must have two years of clinical practice experience as a registered nurse within the last five years at the time of application deadline to be considered for admission. The UT School of Nursing Wellness Clinic is a primary care clinic. We focus on prevention and management of acute and chronic conditions. Our care is provided primarily by nurse practitioners and our services are for patients of all ages.
