Nursing Homes In Meriden And Southington Report Covid
Nursing homes in Southington and Meriden have reported one case each of residents testing positive for COVID-19.
Summit of Plantsville in Southington and the Curtis Home of Meriden each have an infected resident, the state Department of Public Health reported Wednesday.
Residents of long-term care facilities represent our most vulnerable population during this pandemic, as the virus can spread quickly within the enclosed environment such as a nursing home, Public Health Commissioner Renée D. Coleman-Mitchell said in a press release. We are committed to doing everything we can to make sure our nursing home residents get the care they need and that nursing home staff are protected with enough equipment.
Representatives from the Curtis Home could not be reached for comment. A Summitt representative declined comment.

What Our Patients And Their Families Are Saying
I would like to express my gratitude to the staff at the Summit at Plantsville for the excellent care they provided to my mom. She was a resident on Somerset for 18 months before contracting COVID-19 and passing on May 13, 2020.The staff was always kind and caring and really knew mom. It was a huge stress reliever for me to be confident that she was cared for not only physically, but mentally as well. The dementia had robbed her of so many things, but she was always treated with dignity. When she became ill with the virus, the staff was in constant contact, keeping us up-to-date on her condition. They arranged a window visit for us and allowed us to be with her safely just before her passing. I must give a huge shout out to Barbara B. and the recreation department. They provided so much joy for my mom and went above and beyond to allow FaceTime visits. Barb was even able to get a priest to come in to give my mom Last Rites and FaceTimed then so I could be there. They cared for me as much as for my mom. Thank you for all you do.
