Dear Incoming Freshman – St. John Fisher College (nursing student)

Nurses who hold a master’s degree in nursing or a non-clinical master’s degree and wish to become a nurse practitioner in an area of specialty may be eligible to obtain a post master’s certification as a nurse practitioner. The post-master’s program requires the student to complete coursework in the chosen nurse practitioner program.

Students who have already completed a master’s program in nursing may be eligible for course waivers at the discretion of the chair. All students entering the post-master’s APRN certificate program will have a gap analysis performed to determine their individual plans of study.

Upon completion of this variable-credit program, the nurse will be eligible for certification in the selected NP role in New York state and national professional NP certification.

What To Expect From St John Fisher College Online Nursing Programs

Admission Requirements: All nursing applicants must hold an unencumbered RN license in the state of New York. The GRE and GMAT are not required for admission. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required and preference is given to applicants with a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA. In addition, nurses must have a minimum of one year of clinical work experience when they apply. AGACNP applicants must have current Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification plus at least one year of clinical experience in an acute care setting. PMHNP applicants should also have psychiatric-mental health clinical experience.

MSN applicants must have a BSN degree if following the BSN to MSN pathway. Current undergraduates in the BSN program may apply for an accelerated BS to MS option by taking specific graduate-level courses during the senior year of their BSN program.

Post-masters certificate students must hold an MSN degree from an accredited program. Prerequisites for the nursing programs include health assessment, statistics, and research with a grade of B or higher. Application materials include official transcripts, a current resume, a personal goals statement, and two electronic recommendation forms. Non-native English speakers must submit proof of English language proficiency.

Online Experience: St. John Fisher College utilizes Blackboard as its online learning management system in addition to course design through a partnership with 2U, Inc.

    Required Courses In Liberal Arts And Sciences

    As a transfer student, you must take an introductory ethics or bioethics course, such as PHIL 124C, PHIL 250C, REST 130, 284D, or 387D. Before beginning the clinical year as a junior, you must earn a “C” or higher in each of the required Nursing prerequisite courses and a prerequisite GPA of 2.4 or higher including all attempts at these seven courses: Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Nutrition, Statistics, and Development Across the Lifespan. Unless you hold a baccalaureate or higher degree in another field, you must meet Core Requirements to fulfill graduation requirements for a B.S. in nursing.

    St. John Fisher College extends an opportunity to SUNY Corning Community College to offer early assurance to the Wegmans School of Pharmacy professional program to qualified candidates. St. John Fisher College agrees to offer admission to 2 eligible candidates from SUNY Corning Community College per academic year.SUNY Corning Community College agrees to identify 2 candidates per criteria listed below and provide a candidate listing to St. John Fisher College Office of Admissions at the beginning of the fall semester each academic year.

    CRITERIACandidates are selected at the discretion of SUNY Corning Community College, and must meet the following eligibility criteria:

    • Achieve high school grade point average of at least 90
    • Achieve SAT score of 1200 or ACT composite score of 26
    • Eligible students will receive an interview invitation with the Wegmans School of Pharmacy.

    Students in the Pharmacy Early Assurance Partnership Program will be eligible to matriculate into the Doctor of Pharmacy program upon the following:

    Students in the Pharmacy Early Assurance Partnership Program who do not meet the above criteria are still eligible to apply for admission to the WSoP through PhannCAS provided they complete the prerequisite courses, achieve minimum cumulative and science-only grade point averages of 2.75, complete the PCAT on or before the January test date, and submit all required application materials to PharmCAS by March 1 of the intended year of entry.

    Current Fisher nursing students may petition to complete graduate-level coursework during their senior year of undergraduate study. The accelerated options allow specific graduate-level courses to be taken. This shortens graduate degree requirements without compromising didactic and clinical learning experiences in the undergraduate program.

    Students may take advantage of one or both accelerated course options.

    Note:Approval to take graduate courses does not guarantee admission to the M.S. program in nursing. Students who wish to continue their graduate studies at Fisher must complete the application process for graduate admissions.     Students beginning their study of nursing at St. John Fisher College follow the curriculum of the traditional nursing B.S. program. Each year, St. John Fisher College will provide one scholarship at $5,000 per year for four years . The Gilder Lehrman Scholarship in American History at St. John Fisher College will challenge students to unravel complex, often conflicting interpretations of history while making judgments regarding the human and moral implications of actions, events, and ideas, enhanced through hands-on access to the archives and resources held by Rochesters Story Keeper, the Rochester Historical Society .

    Admission/Progression policies provide an opportunity for a baccalaureate education in nursing to qualified students in each of four groups:

    Requirements For Admittance To Rn Licensure Exam

    Graduates of this nursing program meet the education requirement for admittance to the RN licensure exam however, there is a requirement that the applicant be of “good moral character,” and a fee must be paid for the test. On the application for the test, the applicant is required to truthfully answer the following questions:

    • Have you ever been convicted of a crime in any state or country?
