Louisiana Nursing License Renewal

The license has to be renewed after every 2 years. The nurse practicing with an expired license is punishable by the law. It is better to apply for license renewal before the date of expiration. The nurses are reminded of the renewal by the board through mail, a few days before the date of expiration.

  • In order to renew the license online, the candidates need to register online and provide the LPN license number, date of birth, and four digits social security number. A valid email address would be required to register as a user.
  • The candidates are required to fill the online application and submit a proof of 5 contact hours and 16 nursing hours of education. If the nursing hours are falling short, it can be compensated by increasing the number of contact hours.
  • Once you have filled the online application and mailed it to the board with the relevant documents, it might take a minimum of 14 days for the board to send the license through mail. All the licenses issued in 2017 would be paperless.
  • The fee charged for renewal is $60. If you apply for license renewal after the expiry date, you may have to pay an additional fee of $70, which makes the total cost to be $130.

Dr. Vincent June, Chancellor of South Louisiana Community College , joins Discover Lafayette to discuss his mission to provide educational opportunities to all people, no matter their age or background.

Dr. June provides oversight for all academic and operational functions of SLCCs nine campuses in eight parishes, serving more than 17,000 students annually.

Before joining SLCC, Dr. June served diverse communities in public higher education for over two decades, including Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida A& M University and Georgia Perimeter College.

He earned a degree in business and economics from Florida A& M University, and an MBA and Ph.D. in educational leadership from Washington State University.

South Louisiana is a natural fit for Dr. June. He was born in Belle Glade FL, near Lake Okeechobee, an agricultural area of Palm Beach County, Florida. Farmers grew sugar cane, corn, beans, celery, oranges, and tangerines, and there was also fishing. It was a one-stoplight community.

Dr. June was fortunate to come from a background of educators. His grandmother, one of thirteen children, was an adult education schoolteacher, and that is actually how she met Dr. Junes grandfather, who originally came to Florida from Jamaica to cut sugarcane. Both parents were educators.

Slccs Lpn To Rn Program Proceeding

South Louisiana Community Colleges planned LPN to RN program is one step closer to reality.

Today, SLCC received acceptance to move forward with a proposal for a new LPN to RN program. The Louisiana State Board of Nursing granted the acceptance today and will receive the colleges full proposal at its April 18 board meeting.

SLCC plans to house this program at its T.H. Harris Campus in Opelousas to address the local nursing shortage.

Our Opelousas campus has a long history of graduating practical nursing students that have been gainfully employed in St. Landry Parish and beyond, said Dr. Rebecca Harris-Smith, SLCC Dean of Nursing and Allied Health. We feel these graduates have the knowledge base and experience to successfully complete a program like were proposing in a shorter time frame than a traditional RN program.

The development of this program benefits the community in a number of ways including: allowing LPNs an opportunity to become an RN more quickly, providing students the ability to continue working while completing the program, and building upon the skills graduates already possess as nurses.

Training a skilled workforce for healthcare across our region is a priority and part of our mission at SLCC, said Dr. Natalie Harder, Chancellor. This program would be a win-win for our students and alumni and our region as more RNs enter the healthcare workforce.

Lhc Group And Slcc Collaboration Creates Home Health Lab For Student Nurses Training

LAFAYETTE, La. LHC Group, Inc. , a national provider of in-home healthcare services, and South Louisiana Community College recently unveiled a new home health lab for college nursing students in training. The lab, located on SLCCs campus in Lafayette, recreates a residential bedroom, living room, and bathroom area where nursing students can practice skills in a home health environment.

LHC Group is proud to again partner with SLCC to further the education of our future home healthcare clinicians and professionals, said Keith G. Myers, LHC Groups chairman and CEO. Both LHC Group and SLCC are hopeful our collaboration will inspire a trend of making home health labs a standard on college campuses throughout Louisiana and across the country.

Home healthcare is a dynamic and growing sector of the healthcare delivery system, as experts, analysts, and regulators look to us as a more efficient and effective way of providing the care needed for recovery or management of chronic conditions and as more older Americans choose to receive care in the home setting, added Myers. Nursing is a noble profession, and the market for well-trained home health professionals is already highly competitive. As that demand continues to rise, LHC Groups collaboration with SLCC is poised to prepare future nurses with the skills and experience needed to continue making home healthcare a high-quality care choice.
