What Housing Situation Do You Want

Tips for Finding the Best Nursing Schools | How to Choose the Right Nursing Program

Depending on where you study, housing can end up being a significant cost. If you decide to move away from home to earn your degree, you’ll need to figure out where to live. Fortunately, you have a few options.

University housing, such as dorms or apartments, provides a location close to your courses. However, university housing is often more expensive than off-campus housing.

Off-campus housing lets you live nearly anywhere you want. You may be further from campus, but this could place you closer to clinicals.

If you live off-campus, you’ll need to pick the best neighborhood for your situation. Busy cities like New York, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles can be expensive, and living in the suburbs could be the most affordable option.

College towns like Chapel Hill in North Carolina and Ann Arbor in Michigan tend to have the most choices for student housing off-campus.

What Students Are Saying

I graduated in 2019 and grew so much, personally and professionally, over four years because of this program. Clinical placements were very good but you need to prepare for them. Ask questions before you begin and expect to practice, practice, practice, because class work won’t fully make you ready for what happens in a real health care setting. But I was given plenty of help in areas where I needed it.For nurses who want research specialties, there are better nursing programs out there, like UofT, UBC and McMaster. I am interested in paediatric nursing and will need more experience and training in this field, but what I learned was certainly enough to pass the NCLEX. Western’s NCLEX rating is higher than most universities!Best of all was the community. Great people supporting each other 100% of the way, especially important during these trying times.

byJennifer Henderson, Enterprise & Investigative Writer, MedPage Today September 13, 2021

The demand for nurses is reaching new heights as a result of the pandemic. For those looking to pursue a bachelor of science in nursing degree, the University of Pennsylvania is the top place to do so, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Duke University and the University of Washington tied for second in the “2022 Undergraduate Nursing Programs” list. This year marks the first time BSN programs have been included in the U.S. News rankings.

“Nursing is a very popular and important health field and it’s one of the largest undergraduate majors,” Robert Morse, chief data strategist at U.S. News told MedPage Today in an email. “Nurses play many key roles in the health care system and have been indispensable during the coronavirus pandemic.”

U.S. News reported in its overview of the rankings that the new BSN list comes amid “enrollment in nursing programs ticking up in 2020.” The list joins other discipline-specific rankings at the undergraduate level, such as computer science, engineering, and business, U.S. News reported. This year, there are 694 programs in the BSN rankings.

As described by U.S. News, deans and senior faculty members were asked to rate the academic quality of peer institutions’ BSN programs on a 5-point scale: outstanding , strong , good , adequate , and marginal . Individuals who were unfamiliar with a school’s programs were asked to select “don’t know.”

Top 5 Accelerated Nursing Programs

Clemson University Clemson, South Carolina

Accelerated nursing programs arent like starting college all over again. They are more like doing your junior and senior years all over again. Some of the shorter, more intensive accelerated nursing programs cant accept working students. They may even prohibit their students from working. But there are some part-time and online nursing programs that can accommodate students who need to work. These programs may schedule courses for evenings and weekends, taking 18 to 22 months to complete.

Its important to understand what an accelerated nursing program isnt. It isnt an RN-to-BSN program. RN-to-BSN programs are for registered nurses who are currently practiced or at least licensed to practice who need to earn a bachelors degree to meet increasing requirements from their employers or from state licensing boards or who just want to advance their careers. RN-to-BSN programs take about two years to complete.

Accelerated nursing programs do not require any prior experience or education in nursing. They are for students who are new to the field seeking a fresh start.
