Accelerated Bachelor’s To Bsn
For students who hold a non-nursing Bachelor’s degree, an accelerated nursing program offers a faster way of earning a Bachelor’s degree in nursing. These programs may have a higher standard for admission than traditional programs, such as a minimum 3.0 GPA and a requirement of “hands-on” healthcare volunteer hours, but the waiting list may be shorter than in other programs.
Accelerated BSN programs can be completed faster because they omit breaks and often have more intense courses so that they can be completed in a shorter amount of time. Since the same amount of clinical hours is required for any entry-level RN program, they may be scheduled at a grueling pace. For these reasons, many students find this type of program more challenging than traditional programs. Balancing family life and keeping up with friends may also be difficult. However, for the ambitious student who is good at setting priorities, the reward is working as an RN quickly!

What Housing Situation Do You Want
Depending on where you study, housing can end up being a significant cost. If you decide to move away from home to earn your degree, you’ll need to figure out where to live. Fortunately, you have a few options.
University housing, such as dorms or apartments, provides a location close to your courses. However, university housing is often more expensive than off-campus housing.
Off-campus housing lets you live nearly anywhere you want. You may be further from campus, but this could place you closer to clinicals.
If you live off-campus, you’ll need to pick the best neighborhood for your situation. Busy cities like New York, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles can be expensive, and living in the suburbs could be the most affordable option.
College towns like Chapel Hill in North Carolina and Ann Arbor in Michigan tend to have the most choices for student housing off-campus.

Considering Nursing Program Cost
Another factor students need to consider is the cost of their degree. Tuition rates vary by school size, the type of institution, and the degree program. For example, public schools offer in-state tuition to residents, and ADN programs cost less than BSN programs.
Aside from tuition, nursing students need to consider other costs, including:
- School and lab fees
- Other course materials such as uniforms and clinical supplies
- Cost of living expenses which may include on-campus room and board

Other Online Aprn Programs

Whether an RN chooses to enroll in an NP, CRNA, CNM, or CNS program, distance learning is an option. In many cases, “hybrid” programs are available, allowing students to complete some coursework online, but also incorporating classroom and in-person experiences throughout the course of the degree. In most cases, students pursuing a degree as an APRN will need to hold at least a BSN and have an active, unrestricted RN license in order to be eligible for an accredited online program.
While online APRN coursework is convenient and flexible, students should be aware that programs will typically require a certain number of in-person clinical hours, to be arranged at a hospital or other medical facility. Luckily, most online programs allow this preceptorship to be arranged in the student’s local area.

Is The Nursing Program I’m Interested In Good
Just because a school offers a nursing degree doesn’t mean it’s a quality nursing degree.
First, make sure every school and nursing program you apply to is accredited. Any nursing program you apply to should be accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing and Education . If you don’t choose an accredited nursing program, you CANNOT sit for the NCLEX and earn an RN license. You’ll likely have difficulty finding a nursing job after graduation.
Second, check out student outcomes. A nursing school may have a low tuition rate and be accredited, but the NCLEX pass rates could leave something to be desired. In 2021, the US saw a total NCLEX first time pass rate of 85.3%. A pass rate below this would be below the national average. BSN-prepared nurses had a higher NCLEX pass rate of 88.97% as compared to ADN-prepared nurses at 82.47% or diploma nurses at 81%.
How Difficult Is Nursing School
Nursing programs generally require that you maintain above average grades in anatomy, biology, chemistry, microbiology, psychology, physiology, and other challenging subjects. In addition to a science based core curriculum, clinical experience requirements can add tens to hundreds of training hours to your schedule depending upon the degree level and specialty. You will need to read and study a lot of material, however, the same can be said of most college and university majors these days as well.

Who Are The Ideal Students For Accelerated Nursing Programs
Accelerated nursing programs are academically rigorous. Successful students in accelerated nursing programs need to be organized, motivated, and academically inclined.
Accelerated nursing programs require students to spend a lot of time together. Students who are comfortable around different kinds of people and who can tolerate healthy interpersonal tensions are best suited for these programs .
The upside of accelerated nursing programs is that the sole focus is on learning to become a nurse. Theres no adjustment to having a roommate or learning to do laundry for the first time. Theres no pledging a sorority or a fraternity and theres no worry about what to wear every day, because you will be wearing your nursing uniform.
People come to accelerated nursing programs because they are inspired by the competence, courage, and kindness of a nurse in their lives. Or they are seeking opportunities that their first choice of career did not afford. But everyone who succeeds in an accelerated nursing program is smart, dedicated, and concentrated on becoming a nurse.

How Do I Complete Clinicals Practicums And Internships During Online Nursing School
Clinicals, preceptorships, or internships are required for all nursing degrees with the exception of the RN to BSN degree. However, this bridge degree often requires full-time employment as an RN. For these roles, the state requires an exam for licensure, and to be eligible to sit for the exam, clinical hours are required. The requirement varies by state.
For online programs, either the student will be required to find a willing healthcare provider to act as a preceptor, the school will arrange them in the student’s local area, or the student must travel to another area to complete the required hours. The school may have resources to help locate a preceptor and tips on the best ways to approach them.
Clinical hours are not required for RN to BSN courses, but many schools do require the student to work full or part-time as a registered nurse throughout the program.
Check out what we have to say regarding clinical hours during RN school.
