Most Affordable Dnp Programs In North Carolina

For this list of the cheapest DNP programs in North Carolina, we ranked each school by the lowest per credit tuition rate for the doctorate. In the case of public universities, this was usually the in-state rate. As you might expect, well-known private schools such as Duke and Wake Forest School of Medicine are going to be expensive.

One thing to notesince UNC schools often use a per semester tuition rate, we had to create estimates for certain universities by dividing total costs by credits. We tried to ensure mandatory fees and DNP tuition differentials were included in the final per credit rate.

Do Students Have To Find Their Own Preceptor Or Clinical Site Can They Do Their Clinical Rotations Where They Work

Students are not required to find their own preceptor or clinical site. UMSON faculty members are committed to assigning students to clinical sites that are appropriate for course and program objectives. We are fortunate to have contacts with many nurse practitioner alumni and other providers who serve as preceptors. UMSON has clinical contracts with agencies in a variety of settings across the state of Maryland and in Washington, D.C. Students with a particular clinical site/preceptor of interest may forward the contact information to the course faculty member so the faculty member can determine whether the site is appropriate to meet the course objectives. Students should not complete their clinical rotations in the specific environments where they are employed due to a potential conflict of interest. Final approval of clinical site placement is at the faculty members discretion.

Clinical practicum settings are outpatient and community-based, such as in a family practice, primary care office, public and private clinics, and urgent care centers. Students will practice with nurse practitioners and physicians and will complete clinical practicum hours in womens health, adult, geriatric, and pediatric populations. Clinical hours are generally obtained Monday through Friday during routine office hours. It is not uncommon for students to commute 1-2 hours one way to clinical sites.

Overview Of Online Msn

As the DNP continues to gain traction, more schools offer online MSN-to-DNP programs. Nursing professionals who want to pursue doctorates but cannot commit to campus-based programs typically find online DNP programs ideal.

Instructors deliver courses in online MSN-to-DNP programs through synchronous instruction, asynchronous instruction, or a combination of the two. Synchronous instruction requires students to log on at specific times to view live-streamed lectures and participate in classroom discussions through video or text-based chat.

Asynchronous instruction uses recorded lectures, which enrollees can generally access at any time. While this method offers a greater degree of flexibility than synchronous instruction, students must still meet set deadlines for completing assignments.

Online students must travel to nearby healthcare facilities to complete their clinical placement hours. Additionally, most online MSN-to-DNP programs include on-campus intensives, for which students will need to visit campus to participate in orientation events, training exercises, or in-person lectures.

The number and length of these campus visits vary by program. At, we define an online program as one that requires three or fewer campus visits each year. This way, degree-seekers clearly understand the travel requirements associated with each degree program.

The Modern Family Nurse Practitioner

Family Nurse Practitioners otherwise known as FNPs are advanced practice registered nurses who provide primary care to patients of all ages. Like GPs of old, FNPs often become trusted medical advisers to families. They may be responsible for treating acute illnesses, managing chronic conditions, conducting physicals and diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and counseling families on better health and wellness.

This last task is also one of the most important. A large part of a FNPs job is focused on disease prevention, health promotion, and holistic care. Regardless of the setting be it a doctors office, a rural clinic, a private home, a school, or a hospital FNPs act as patient advocates, helping families deal with complex healthcare systems. Although many FNPs work under the supervision of a clinical physician, some run their own private practices. Others take up leadership positions as hospital administrators, researchers, or healthcare policy makers.
