The Graduate Entry option enables students with a bachelor’s degree in a major other than nursing to earn a Master of Science in Nursing. Students select a specialty at the time of application to the Graduate Entry option. At the mid-point of the program, students take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses . A professional license is required to practice in the field of this academic program, or to advance or specialize in that field. This program meets advanced practice registered nurse licensure requirements in the State of Ohio and is approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education.

The Expanding Presence Of Male Nurses

In 1960, men accounted for just 2.2% of the nursing workforce. However, the healthcare industry has witnessed a dramatic upswing from this number in recent years. Men accounted for 9.4% of the registered nurse workforce in 2020, in contrast to:

Ohio Nursing Careers For Masters Graduates

Between 2006 and 2016, the demand for ambulatory healthcare services is expected to increase by almost 30 percent in Ohio. That demand driven by an aging population will create employment opportunities for masters-prepared nurses.

About two dozen colleges and universities offer state-approved masters in nursing programs in Ohio. There are also RN to MSN programs in Ohio that allow you to enter a masters program even if you dont yet have your Bachelors degree.

Through these programs, you can train to become Advanced Practice Registered Nurses in specialized fields. Nearly half of the APRNs in Ohio about 5000 of them are certified nurse practitioners, according to a nursing board report. APRNs are certified nurse anesthetists, 680 are certified nurse specialists, and 193 are nurse midwives, the survey showed.

Ohio colleges offer masters degrees not only in these familiar specialized areas, but also in several less common areas of concentration.     School Nurse License Certificate

    Ohio University has an approved School Nurse Certificate program for OHIO graduates. The School Nurse certificate requires a minimum of 15 credit hours and is for students interested in obtaining an ODE Pupil Service License to be a School Nurse in the state of Ohio. Required courses include courses through the School of Nursing, as well as a course from psychology or health. The majority of courses are delivered online, although some elective courses could require classroom attendance. NRSE 4740 requires preceptored clinical experiences with a school nurse.

    The Ohio Department of Education is responsible for the School Nurse Licensure program which falls under Pupil Services Licenses. Nurses seeking a School Nurse position must hold both a professional nursing board license, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree , and a Pupil Service License.

    In order to apply for a Pupil Service License as a School Nurse, you must:
    • Be a Registered Nurse in the state of Ohio
    • Hold a baccalaureate degree in nursing
    • Complete an approved School Nurse educational program

    Certificate programs do not qualify for financial aid.

    The School Nurse courses are offered once a year and must be taken in sequence, as shown below. Students who are completing the Ohio University RN to BSN program may take these courses concurrently. Students who hold a nursing baccalaureate degree from another institution can also complete the requirements as a non-degree seeking student.
