About the UCLA School of Nursing: The UCLA School of Nursing is celebrated both for the education it provides and the research it conducts. Tuition for a nursing school in New Jersey will cost between $5,000 to $9,000 per year for state residents seeking a two year Associate degree, an ADN or ASN, for example. The larger public four year colleges and universities in New Jersey cost more between $10,000 to $15,000 per year for state residents seeking their Bachelor Degree in Nursing, a BDN or BSN.
To help reduce the cost of nursing school in New Jersey, a student can generally take their pre-nursing courses at a smaller two year college. Then, transfer those credits into the larger four year college or university of your choice. Each college has their own method of awarding transfer credits for pre-nursing coursework. You will need to plan ahead and question the receiving school before you start your first pre-nursing class.

How To Become A Nurse In California
California RNs need an associate or bachelor’s degree from a state-approved program. Nursing programs in California provide the academic knowledge and hands-on training needed for licensure. Out-of-state RNs can transfer their license by submitting it and relevant academic transcripts to the California Board of Registered Nursing . These RNs also complete a criminal background check.
Nursing in California involves maintaining patients’ medical records, discussing treatments with physicians, and operating medical equipment. Responsibilities vary by employer, job site, and specialty. Popular specialties include neonatology and public health. RNs may also work as healthcare consultants.

Accelerated Nursing Programs In California
There are more than 10 different accelerated BSN programs offered throughout the state. The programs vary in length, but all generally run for 12 to 24 months, depending on the college attended. Most of these programs require a full-time commitment, and have required courses that must have been passed before admission to the accelerated program will be granted. The prerequisites vary depending on the degree previously attained, as well as which college program being taken. Total costs for an accelerated degree can run as much as $65,000, this is dependent upon the program, how many prerequisite courses needed, and if housing costs need to be factored in as well.
Undergraduate Transfer Credit Requirements Only
- A grade of B- or higher is required for all science and nursing transfer credits . A grade of C or higher is required for all other transfer credits.
- “C” grades earned in science courses may be accepted for transfer if the corresponding HESI A2 test score is 72 or greater. A second HESI A2 attempt may not be completed after academic eligibility is determined.
- Pre-licensure nursing coursework must have been completed within the past five years and be from a baccalaureate level program to be considered for transfer credit or for degree completion.
- Transfer credit will not be awarded for any clinical nursing course at the 300 level or above
- Courses transferring in for microbiology, chemistry or anatomy and physiology credit must have been completed within 10 years of the date of enrollment or re-entry and include a lab component in order to be considered for transfer credit or for degree completion.
- Students transferring credit for fundamentals, pharmacology and/or health assessment will be required to take the standardized subject matter exam for that course by a pre-determined deadline and will be offered individual remediation as needed. Students must complete the fundamentals exam prior to registration of their first clinical nursing course. Transfer Bsn Programs: San Francisco And Sacramento
USF has two nursing programs for transfer applicants. One is based at our San Francisco Hilltop campus, and the other is at our Sacramento campus and focuses on caring for veterans. Learn more about both programs at the School of Nursing and Health Professions website.
You may apply to either program for the fall or spring semester, but you may not apply to both programs for the same term. Once enrolled at one campus, you must complete all required courses at that campus. It is not possible to transfer between campus locations.

The Samuel Merritt School of Nursing was one of the last nursing schools in California to switch from a three-year diploma program to a four-year baccalaureate program.
