Nurses who have already earned an Associate Degree in Nursing , and have their RN license, may wish to enroll in DCoNs online RN-to-BSN program. This program has been designed by nurses, for nurses, many of whom must continue working. The good news is that this program has no prerequisites, provided you have an ADN from an accredited institution and an unencumbered state license as a registered nurse!

What Immunizations Will Be Required Upon Acceptance

Any acceptance will be contingent upon completion of these requirements. You will be asked for the following immunization records:

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination – one dose of J& J or two doses of Pfizer or Moderna and any future boosters required by clinical sites. No titers will be accepted at this time.
  • TB Test PPD test or chest x-ray is accepted. We recommend you get your TB test after July 1st for a fall start and between December 5th and January 5th for a spring start. Your TB is good for a full 2 semesters.
  • Measles, Mumps and Rubella two doses or lab documentation of a positive titer.
  • Hepatitis B three doses or lab documentation of a positive titer.
  • Varicella two doses or lab documentation of a positive titer.
  • TDAP proof of inoculation, within the last 10 years.
  • Influenza Immunization Required annually.

Five additional courses may be completed prior to application and/or admission. These courses are not required to apply to the program but may be completed prior to beginning the nursing program. They are required for the ADN degree.


  • MAT 1120 – Math for Clinical Calculations . Can be taken within five years of acceptance into the nursing program.
  • BIO 2116 – Pathophysiology . Suggested to be taken within two semesters of acceptance into the nursing program. Must be completed prior to starting third semester.
  • BIO 2102 – Anatomy and Physiology
  • BIO 2104 – Microbiology
  • Elective – Humanities / Social Science must be selected from the Guaranteed Transfer Course list.

Among other criteria, admissions personnel check to see that you have maintained at least a cumulative 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale for the following prerequisite courses.

These courses must equal a 3.0 grade point average and ALL BIO courses must be completed within seven years, both at the time of application and when the student is accepted into the program. Any CLEP, DANTES or testing instrument with a pass grade will be awarded a grade of C for purposes of Nursing Program prerequisites.

Associate Degree Nursing Programs Without Prerequisites

Heartland Community College in Normal, Illinois offers a four-semester Associate Degree Nursing program without prerequisites, as long as the student does not need to take any developmental classes. Although the college encourages students to take general education courses before beginning the nursing courses, students do have the option of taking both general education and nursing courses simultaneously.

In Hickory, North Carolina, Catawba Community College offers a five-semester ADN program the program has no prerequisites as long as the incoming student has completed high school biology and chemistry. In the western part of the country, Dakota Wesleyan University in South Dakota offers a two-year Associate of Arts in Nursing degree that does not require prerequisite classes. A student in this program does have to take general education classes the program includes two summer semesters in addition to the traditional fall and spring semesters in order to accommodate these classes. In Crown Point and Fort Wayne, Indiana, St. Francis University offers a four-semester ADN program without prerequisites, provided that the incoming student does not need developmental classes and has taken high school chemistry. In Sioux City, Iowa, students can enroll in St. Lukes Colleges five-semester Associate of Science in Nursing program without completing any prerequisites.

Associate Degree Nursing Admissions Policy And Procedures

Lakeland Community College’s Nursing Program Admission Requirements

To enter the nursing program, a student must first be admitted to RichmondCC. Admission to RichmondCC, however, does not guarantee admission into the nursing program. A letter from the Admissions Office will be sent to the student upon acceptance into the nursing program. A letter from the Registrar will be sent to the student regarding transfer equivalency.

The following policies and procedures are utilized in admitting qualified students:

1. Be a high school graduate or equivalent.

2. A Nursing Applicant must have already completed or exempted out of the following prerequisites: MAT 043 and ENG 011

3. Students interested in the Associate Nursing Degree Program will need to fill out a separate Admissions application located on the ADN academic page on the RichmondCCs website. If needed, potential nursing students are welcome to request assistance from Student Services to complete this application. ADN admissions applications must be submitted before the Summer Semester begins of the year they wish to enter into the ADN program. New applications are available in June annually. Students are encouraged to apply early, even if they do not meet all requirements. Applications will open on June 1st, 2022 and close on May 31st, 2023. Steps to apply

If you’re interested in applying to the Nursing Program you must first attend an information session for nursing. Admission to the program’s clinical component is highly competitive and based on student grades and results on the TEAS exam.

Indicating nursing as a major on the College’s application does not indicate automatic acceptance into the clinical component of the program. You must meet specific admission criteria to enter the clinical component.

    Bachelor Of Science In Nursing Completion Option

    This program is designed for students who have already met prerequisites for the BSN completion program, including students who have earned a prior baccalaureate degree. This program also accepts students who have not obtained a prior baccalaureate. In that instance, applicants must show that theyve completed various prerequisite courses, maintaining a cumulative 2.5 GPA in those courses.

    Other Nursing School Requirements

    In addition to the pre reqs for nursing discussed above, students need to meet other nursing school requirements. For instance, most schools require a grade of “C” or better in these general education and science courses. ADN programs usually admit students with an overall high school GPA between 2.5 and 2.75, while BSN degrees require at least a 3.0 GPA. More selective undergraduate programs may require GPAs of 3.25 or higher.

    Nursing schools often ask for an essay describing educational and career goals. You can make these stand out from the competition by explaining why you want to attend this particular program, how you became interested in nursing, and what personal or volunteer experiences helped you expand your interest in healthcare.

    Although many schools no longer require standardized tests, students who score well on the SAT or ACT may choose to submit these results to boost their chances or offset weaknesses in their academic record. Some nursing schools require entrance exams, such as the National League for Nursing Pre-Admission Exam or the Nursing Entrance Test to determine an applicant’s likelihood of success. Check with your intended schools to learn about any examination requirements.

    What Is A Typical Schedule Like

    The nursing program is full-time, days. You are typically on-campus three to four days per week from 8:00am to 4:30pm You attend four full-time semesters and are told each semester the classes for which to register. There are no required classes during the summer semester. A schedule may include lecture classes two days per week, up to three clinical shifts per week and additional lab assignments.

    Clinical shifts may be 8 , 10 or 12 hours and may be days, evenings, nights, or any day of the week. Some clinical shifts may occur in the summer semester. The schedule for clinical shifts is subject to last-minute changes.

    Prospective students must attend an LPN to RN Nursing Information Session. Applicants who have attended an info session within the last two years, are responsible for meeting current admission requirements. A & P II, Human Growth and Development and Microbiology must be completed by May 15th. Applicants must be a currently licensed LPN and successfully complete the NLN Nursing Acceleration Challenge Exam I: Foundations of Nursing with a required overall percent correct score of 75% or better. Test scores are valid for a period of 12 months prior to application deadline. Applications and required documents must be completed by December 1st to be considered for acceptance in the Hybrid course. An interview will then be arranged with the Director of Nursing and nursing faculty.

    Diploma Nursing Programs Without Prerequisites


    Hospital-based diploma nursing programs are less likely to require prerequisites than bachelors programs. As hospital-based programs were the traditional way of training new nurses in the past, these programs generally have a long history and are mostly found in the eastern half of the county. In Pittsburgh, the University of Pittsburgh Shadyside School of Nursing offers a twenty-two-month-long diploma program that combines general education and nursing courses.

    St. Joseph School of Nursing in North Providence, Rhode Island cooperates with Rhode Island College to offer a diploma nursing program that takes three years to complete. As long as a student has completed a high school chemistry class, the program does not have prerequisites. In Jersey City, New Jersey, students can complete both a diploma in nursing and an Associate of Science degree through Christ Hospital School of Nursing and Hudson County Community College. Students do not need to take any prerequisite courses other than the standard high school classes before beginning the cooperative program. Graham Hospital School of Nursing in Canton, Illinois does not require any prerequisites for its three-year diploma nursing program, as long as the applicant has completed the standard high school curriculum.
