Nursing Home Payment Options
Paying for nursing home care can be expensive and stressful if families haven’t planned ahead. The best way to pay for nursing home care is through proper insurance. Many policies have a time limit in place before they will pay out claims, so families should look into those details. Medicare and Medicaid are also an option, but each state has different rules for qualifying. As a last resort, families should have money in savings to help pay for nursing home costs. The average family burns through their savings for nursing home care in six months. Industry experts recommend that seniors and their families not rely solely on savings to pay for nursing home care. With proper insurance and/or Medicare, families may be able to easily afford nursing home care for their loved one.
Aging seniors already have enough to worry about. They don’t need to worry about the level of care they will receive from a nursing home, too. It is important to choose a home that makes both you and your loved one comfortable, but at the same time offers the best care available. Nursing homes should be an accepting, supportive community with compassionate staff and managers. Residents should be happy and relatively healthy, depending on their individual circumstances. The best way to discover what type of nursing home you’re dealing with is to visit the facility and speak to the staff and residents.

Some Ohio Nursing Homes Pushing Back Against Esthers Law
TOLEDO, Ohio – Esthers Law went into effect back on March 23rd, which allows people to put video cameras in residents rooms at nursing homes. The law has been well received by most nursing homes and their residents, but some facilities are pushing back.
Steve Piskor spearheaded Esthers Law the law came to be after his mother was abused at a Cleveland-area nursing home. He says people with relatives in facilities have contacted him, sharing how facilities in two major Ohio cities are now giving stipulations on what kinds of cameras are allowed in residents rooms. Piskor says this is directly against the wording of Esthers Law.
Esthers Law is clear on this: the resident tells the nursing home what camera theyre going to use, it doesnt say the nursing home, says Piskor. We took all that away from the nursing home for a reason, so the nursing home has nothing whatsoever to do with this camera law.
According to Piskor, one nursing home in Cleveland and two in Cincinnati are requiring families install a specific kind of camera and making them pay $200 for installation. Esthers Law states that families do have to pay for the camera and its installation, but Piskor says it should cost significantly less than $200.
He calls it nothing but retaliation.

What Determines The Cost Of A Nursing Home In Ohio
The overall cost of an assisted living facility will greatly depend on how many services and which types you will need. Someone who needs very little assistance can expect to have a lower monthly bill than someone who needs lots of hands-on care. Also, factors like floor plans and meal services will affect the price, as well as the staff-to-resident ratio.
There are typically two ways assisted living is charged: a la carte and all-inclusive.
An a la carte bill will be itemized. It usually includes monthly rent , care service fees, medication management, medical assistance, and other housekeeping or repair services. Charges for some recreational activities may also show up here.
All-inclusive is exactly how it sounds. There will be one monthly fee that covers rent and all amenities and services you may use. However, with this type of billing, sometimes the extent to which some services can be used is capped.
