Veterans Affairs Aid and Attendance Benefits
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs offers an additional pension benefit called the Aid and Attendance program, which may help veterans and survivors pay for assisted living in Lake Havasu City. This benefit is paid in addition to the basic VA pension, and seniors may receive as much as $9,042 per year. However, since this benefit increases the pension amount, seniors whose incomes excluded them from a basic pension may still receive Aid and Attendance.
Seniors may qualify for this additional VA benefit if they need help with eating, bathing, getting dressed or performing other daily tasks. Seniors who are legally blind, bedridden or patients in nursing homes may also qualify.
To apply for Aid and Attendance, visit the Phoenix Regional Benefit Office, located at 3333 N. Central Ave. Applications may also be faxed to the Pension Management Center at 655-1604. When applying, include documentation that supports the need for assistance, such as a report from a doctor.
