Masters Entry To Nursing Programs

Why Is Accreditation Important For A Direct

ENTRY LEVEL MASTERS in NURSING PROGRAMS | Worth it? Is BSN Better?

Accreditation is the process of evaluating colleges and universities to make sure that they offer students a quality education. Independent agencies assess higher education programs and grant â or deny â accreditation status.

Schools or programs that do not possess accreditation should register as a red flag. Graduate schools accept students with accredited undergraduate degrees, and unaccredited credits usually do not transfer to other schools.

Plus, aspiring nurses and NPs need accredited degrees to qualify for licensure. That means accredited degrees can lead to greater job prospects as well.

Dual Master’s Degree Programs

Who is it right for? Nurses who want advanced leadership or healthcare administration roles

If you know that you want to one day become a hospital CEO or a Chief Nursing Officer, you may want to consider a dual master’s degree in nursing program. With these, you can earn an MSN at the same time as you earn a more leadership-focused degree like an MSN/MBA, or an MSN/MHA — Master’s in Healthcare Administration. You can also earn an MSN/MPH if you want your career to take a public health route.

For Students Who Have A Degree In A Field Other Than Nursing And Do Not Have An Rn License

The Graduate Entry Program in Nursing offers post-baccalaureate entry to the Master of Science in Advanced Population Health Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs. At the time of application to GEPN, the student selects a specialty area and graduate degree . Once admitted to GEPN, a student may not change from the specialty track selected at the time of application. Transfer from one specialty area to another is not permitted. Transfer into or between the FNP or AGPCNP specialties is not permitted. Once enrolled in GEPN, a student may not apply as a new student to another graduate nursing degree program.

Healthcare Administration Master’s Degrees For Nurses

The two primary healthcare administration master’s degrees are:

  • Masters of Business Administration in Healthcare Management
  • An MBA in Healthcare Management focuses on general business leadership as well as healthcare administration while a Master’s in Healthcare Administration focuses on topics specific to healthcare like understanding healthcare operations and functioning in a leadership role at an executive level.

Earning an MBA or MHA are both excellent options however, an MBA has a broader focus in the curriculum. An MBA in Healthcare Administration allows individuals to gain a better understanding of general business and financial practices rather than those specific to healthcare.
