How Many Intakes Are There Every Year
There are three periods of this course per year. The months of March, July, and November are the beginning points for each of these cycles.
To be eligible for admission to the Master of Nursing course an applicant is required to:
- Have completed a Bachelor of Nursing degree or an equivalent qualification
- Be an AHPRA registered nurse or
- Be a registered nurse with the Nurses Board/Council from the country of origin or place of residence and must have English Language Proficiency as evidenced by:
- An IELTS level of at least 6.5 with no bands less than 6, or equivalent scores in OET/PTE/other recognised English examination or
- Direct entry through a pass in English for Academic Purpose course with a minimum score of 70%
- IELTS: Overall 6.5 and no band less than 6.0
- PTE: Overall 56 and no band less than 46
- OET: B for each test component

Why Study The Master Of Nursing
This masters degree program is specifically designed for graduates of any Bachelor of Nursing degree to enable them to extend their nursing knowledge and skills in a specialist setting. The Master of Nursing program offers a flexible, external method of study. Some core courses and those in the Advanced Practice Nursing Field of Study are also delivered internally.
Students are able to select from six fields of specialisation or use the generic Advanced Practice Nursing field tailored to suit the specialist practice setting of the student. The Advanced Practice Nursing field of study is offered internally only to domestic students. Students who do not currently hold Bachelor of Nursing, or equivalent, may only apply for the Graduate Certificate. When this is successfully completed students may then apply for entrance into the Graduate Diploma or Master of Nursing or Master of Nurse Practitioner Studies programs.

Admission Requirements You’ll Need To Meet For This Course
- Academic Admission requirements
The following course-specific admission requirements are mandatory and must be satisfied by all applicants. These requirements are in addition to or supersede the minimum requirements outlined within the Academic admission requirements band section below.
All applicants are required to have a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree, with a course weighted average mark of at least 60%, or equivalent as recognised by the University. A health science-based degree is desirable all applicants are required to have a tertiary level unit in human biology . Prospective applicants are required to submit a curriculum vitae and a personal statement as part of their application. This is a competitive entry program and applications are assessed on academic merit.
Academic admission requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:
- Bachelor degree or
- Equivalent prior learning including at least five years relevant professional experience.
In addition to satisfying ECU minimum English standard requirements for this course, all applicants must also demonstrate English language proficiency as specified in the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australias English language skills registration standard.

Placements And Work Experience
Students will undertake approximately 800 hours of supervised clinical practice in a range of clinical settings that includes hospitals and a variety of health care organisations.
