How To Choose A Kansas City Nursing Home
The selection of a nursing home is an important and difficult decision. Some tips to consider include:
- Research and think about what services are important to you and your loved one.
- Talk with your doctor, friends, relatives, social workers and other people you trust to get recommendations
- Contact each potential home and get details about occupancy, services, staffing, costs and wait lists.
- Visit and meet with the director and the nursing director. Take a copy of the Nursing Home Checklist offered by Medicare to get an idea of what to look for on your visit.
- Ask questions and observe the staff, residents and facility. Dont be afraid to visit again at a different time.
Once you select a home, you need to read the contract carefully and ask the director about any terms or conditions that you do not understand. If necessary, have a friend or family member read over the contract before you sign it.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has a guide that provides more information in detail on this important decision. Most important, you should not rush this decision. Do your research so you can make the best decision possible for your loved one.

Kc Center For Rehabilitation And Healthcare Closes

Kansas City Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare, a skilled nursing home located at Blue Ridge Blvd and Wornall Rd, has closed its doors, leaving 155 full-time residents seeking new homes.
Residents were notified July 7 of the decision, made by the owner Centers Care and its management team Mission Health.
Mission Health released a statement regarding the decision to close.
After extensive discussions with Centers ownership and the Mission Health management team about local market conditions, the decision was made to sell the property at Kansas City Center, reads the statement.
Over the last couple months, we have been in the process of closing this community. This decision was a difficult one, but necessary. When combined with financial challenges related to the market conditions of the area and shrinking healthcare reimbursement, it has become impossible to provide the standard of care that we expect for our residents.
Employees at Kansas City Center were notified, as their lives were unfortunately impacted by this situation. Despite the unavoidable reality of what had to happen, Mission Health is extremely proud of the commitment our staff has demonstrated in caring for our residents as we transitioned them into new homes. Kansas City Center remained open until each of our residents were properly relocated.
