Galen College To Be Acquired By National Health Care Company

Louisville’s Galen College of Nursing will be acquired by a national health care giant, the college announced Thursday afternoon.
Under the deal, Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare , one of the nations leading health care providers, will become the majority owner of the parent company of Galen, one of the largest educators of nurses in the U.S.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
With 94,000 registered nurses, HCA Healthcare is one of the largest employers of nurses in the country, with nurses holding positions from bedside caregivers in a variety of health care settings to leadership positions throughout the organization. This new partnership is a continuation of HCA Healthcares focus on nurses and nursing excellence, which has resulted in a positive impact on clinical outcomes, patient experience, efficiency of care and nurse engagement, according to the release.
Nurses are the lifeblood of our organization, and weve been intentional about investing in nursing so they can be successful and provide the best possible patient care, said Sam Hazen, HCA Healthcares CEO, in the release. Galen has an excellent reputation in nursing education, and we look forward to working with them to advance their mission and expand their programs to more of our markets.
The transaction is subject to pending regulatory approval and other customary conditions.

Omega Therapeutics earnings beat estimates twice in the last four quarters and missed the mark on the other two occasions.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for Progynys 2022 bottom line has improved 4.5 times in the past 60 days. PGNY has witnessed three upward estimate revisions during the same time against none in the opposite direction.
Progynys earnings beat estimates in each of the last four quarters, the average being 169.7%.

Graduates of the BSN program have passed the NCLEX-RN exam at a remarkable 93% first-time rate over the past decade. The College of Nursing also educates approximately 300 graduate nursing students, providing BSN and MSN entry points to both its DNP and PhD programs. Hca Healthcare Acquires Galen Expands Nursing Schools
Leading hospital operator HCA Healthcare, Inc. HCA has bought a majority ownership of Galen College of Nursing. The deal was announced in March 2019.
With this acquisition, HCA Healthcare will be adding to its existing pool of two nursing schools, Research College of Nursing and Mercy School of Nursing, as well as seven advanced nursing simulation training centers.

Galen College of Nursing is a privatenursing school with multiple locations in the United States.
The college was established in Louisville, Kentucky, by Humana Inc., in 1990, and was originally known as Galen Health Institutes. The college originally offered only a one-year licensed practical nurse program in Louisville, San Antonio, Texas, and St. Petersburg, Florida.
In 2005, the college gained accreditation from the Council on Occupational Education which permits the college to offer the two-year Associate of Science in Nursing degree that enables graduates to become registered nurses . In connection with these changes, the college adopted its current name, Galen College of Nursing. The school now offers an additional online Bachelor of Science in Nursing program for RNs who wish to further their education.
The college added a campus in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2007.

Hca Eyeing Another 18 Nursing College Campuses
Ramping up a workforce development push, the leaders of HCA Healthcare Inc. plan to establish up to 18 additional campuses of the Nashville-based companys Galen College of Nursing in the next three years.
Speaking to analysts and investors Jan. 27 after HCA reported its fourth-quarter results, HCA CEO Sam Hazen said the growth push is part of a plan to triple the number of Galen nursing graduates by 2026 and help provide vitally needed talent to HCAs national network of more than 180 hospitals and 2,200 ambulatory care sites.
HCA acquired a majority stake in Galen in 2019, when the college ran its main campus in Louisville as well as four other sites and an online arm. Since then, Galen leaders have opened seven campuses, moved into a new, 130,000-square-foot main campus in Louisville and grown their enrollment has grown to more than 8,000 from 5,000 in 2018. Hazen noted on his teams Jan. 27 conference call that the Austin and Nashville sites they span 26,000 and 47,700 square feet, respectively have seen the fastest growth in Galens history.
With investors paying close attention to the spending on labor, shares of HCA were down about 5 percent to $227 in Jan. 27 trading. They have fallen about 8 percent over the past six months.

The vice president of human resources for HCA Houston Healthcare struggled like his colleagues in other hospital systems scrambling to staff hospitals amid a shortage of nurses.
Trying to solve the puzzle of providing topnotch health care in an ever-changing personnel landscape, his hospital system may have helped him and the entire Gulf Coast area with a novel ideathey bought a nursing school.
With the purchase of the majority stake in Galen College of Nursing, one of the nations leading nursing schools, the region could in the next three to five years see an influx of up to 1,500 graduating nurses each year to help feed the fragile workforce.

Galens graduates will help us nurture a pipeline of next-generation nurses and nurse leaders to deliver effective, evidence-based, innovative care to our patients.
While the purchase was complete in January 2020, Goodman was happy to announce that Galen executives in conjunction with HCA Healthcare real estate teams are currently pouring over demographic information to determine the location of the first Galen College of Nursing in Houston, one of the largest markets in the country.
