About Elizabeth Ellen Peters

Beth Peters, NP, is originally from Texas, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Texas Lutheran University. Following graduation, she worked in an academic research and later commercial lab setting. Although interesting, the laboratory environment lacked the fulfillment of patient interaction she experienced as a hospital volunteer, and she chose to return to school and obtained her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.Following graduation, Peters worked at UNC Hospitals Heart Center for several years before relocating to Greenville, South Carolina. She joined the Cardiovascular Intensive Care team at Prisma Health in 2009, where she worked in the intensive care setting for several years before returning to school to become a nurse practitioner. She received her master’s degree in nursing from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., in 2015 and currently practices as a board-certified adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner. She returned to Prisma Health in 2020 and practices as an advanced practice provider with Carolina Cardiology Consultants.

The Difference Between Fnps And Acnps

The nursing field constantly evolves, addressing issues that lead to better care for patients. For instance, certificate options change as certifying agencies align their credentials with the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Consensus Model. This model provides guidance that allows states to regulate APRN education, licensure, job description, and accreditation.

Today, the ACNP exam is no longer required as a primary speciality of certification, as it served a specialty area instead of a specific target population. The American Nurses Credentialing Center also retired the adult nurse practitioner and gerontological nurse practitioner exam in favor of combining these classifications into adult-gerontology.

Practitioners can now choose between becoming an adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner or a pediatric nurse practitioner acute care . Prospective students should examine the differences between these specialities to determine the best path.

How To Become An Fnp

Aspiring family nurse practitioners can begin their career by completing an ADN or BSN program and passing the National Council Licensure Examination for RNs . Practitioners go on to earn a master’s or complete a bridge program from an accredited school to qualify for licensure. Students should note that advanced nursing programs often require several years of experience working with their target population before admission.

The ANCC and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners offer the FNP exam required for licensure. Recertification includes 1,000 hours of clinical practice within the past five years, 100 hours of continuing education, and 50 hours of pharmacology. Students should view their state’s nursing requirements to determine how to apply. FNPs must renew their certification every five years through the board. State renewal may include additional requirements.

Tips For Addressing The Psychological Effects Of Organ Donation

Establish a strong support system.

Having family and friends who can drive donors to follow-up appointments, help with tasks such as cooking and cleaning, and provide encouragement will be helpful as donors are recovering.

Have confidence in the decision to donate.

Donors can build confidence ahead of the procedure by talking to their surgical team, who will not try to pressure them into undergoing surgery.

Write down thoughts about the motivation to donate before surgery.

Having this reference in writing can help remind patients why they chose to donate if they are questioning their decision after the procedure.

Consider the relationship with the recipient.

For non-directed donations, both the donor and recipient must want to contact each other for transplant coordinators to connect them. Donors should consider expressing their desires to contact their recipient if they think it would help in their recovery.

Join a support group for organ donors.

A transplant center may be able to provide referrals to other living donors who have undergone similar experiences.
