Cleveland State University’s Master of Science in Nursing program is based on the principles of population health and is designed to prepare graduates with advanced knowledge, competencies, and skills in the nursing care of populations . The graduate will have in-depth skills in population assessment, demography, epidemiological assessment and data analysis, evaluation of research, survey research, data projections, cost-benefit analysis, and the ability to apply nursing theory, population theory, ethics, cultural awareness, and political strategies to design, implement, and evaluate population health programs.

Students may select from four tracks available: clinical nurse leader, forensic nursing, nursing education, or specialized population, according to their interests and professional goals. In keeping with the rules and regulations of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, the program does not prepare nurse practitioners or clinical nurse specialists graduates are not eligible to apply for a certificate of authority in the State of Ohio.

    DNP Program Overview

    The Doctor of Nursing Practice places emphasis on clinical practice and leadership training. The DNP is instrumental in advancing a clinical nursing career. Cleveland State Universitys DNP program uniquely prepares graduates to obtain the doctorate degree through the post baccalaureate degree and post masters degree entry points. The program provides the necessary coursework to obtain nurse practitioner certifications. Students have the option of choosing from two certification tracks: Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner . A Health Systems Leadership track is available for students with an post masters in nursing degree.

    Cleveland State University is a public institution in Cleveland, Ohio. It was established in 1964 after purchasing the buildings of Fenn College. It also acquired the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1969. It is now part of the University System of Ohio. Over 70 majors are available at the university, along with 27 masters degree programs. These programs are offered through the nine colleges and five specialty-schools operated by the university, including the School of Nursing. The campus is the downtown Cleveland area. There is also a satellite campus in Westlake, which is part of the greater Cleveland area.

    Basic BSN Program

    To apply for this program, students will need to attend an information session, complete all of the prerequisite courses with a minimum grade of C, have a minimum prerequisite GPA of 2.75 and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. This program usually takes three years to complete.

    Accelerated BSN Program

    Students who already have a bachelors degree can take this alternative program in order to get their BSN degree in just four semesters of full-time study.

    Students will need to complete every required clinical and theory course to get their BSN degree, including all nursing specialty content. Graduates of this program can then take the NCLEX-RN licensure exam in order to become a registered nurse.
