How To Enroll In A Bsn Program
You will need a high school diploma or GED certificate to enroll in a BSN program. Each college or university has its own set of prerequisites for BSN candidates. Some institutions may ask BSN applicants to take a basic medical terminology course, while others may require specific subject prerequisites.
LPNs or LVNs who are looking to earn a BSN can do so in less than 48 months. Some colleges offer degrees that build upon an ADN or diploma. These programs are often referred to as bridge programs,re-entry programs or RN-to-BSN programs. A typical bridge program takes approximately 24 to 36 months to complete.
Below is a small selection of colleges and universities that offer accelerated BSN programs:
Value Of A Bsn Degree
Going back to school for nursing requires you to do some serious financial planning. But as you run the numbers, keep in mind that a BSN degree is a smart investment in your future. Just be aware that our ABSN program is a rigorous, full-time learning path that requires dedication and hard work to succeed. Thereby, we dont recommend working while in accelerated nursing school.
Now lets get into some of the reasons why a BSN is worth its weight in gold. For starters, nursing is a high-demand, fast-growing profession rife with reward and opportunityespecially for those who hold a BSN degree or higher. After all, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing recognizes a BSN as the minimum education requirement for professional practice. Therefore, many health-care employers now require their registered nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing to go back to school and earn their BSN within a specified time frame.
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing conducted a survey in August 2018 that asked 627 nursing schools about employer preferences regarding education levels. Of the schools that responded, 45.6% of health-care employers require their new nurses to have a BSN, while 88.4% had a strong preference for BSN program graduates.

What To Look For In A School
When comparing BSN programs, look for signs that tell you whether youre likely to get your moneys worth from your education. Most schools publicize key student statistics on their websites.
These numbers typically include:
- Percentage of graduates from the most recent graduating class who have jobs as nurses
- Student-to-faculty ratio
- Ranking among BSN programs in their state
Dont be casual about choosing a school. Take time to find out if a school is a good fit.
Make sure that you talk to the schools, Poindexter says. Does the program fit your lifestyle? How is it delivered? If its online and you dont like to work online and thats not the way that you prefer to study, then you need to look at a different program that offers more face-to-face time in a traditional classroom.

Tuition And Other Costs
The cost of a BSN degree varies based on considerations such as the type of school and length of program. Since they take less time to complete, bridge programs typically cost less than a traditional four-year degree at the same school.
According to the most recent figures from the National Center for Education statistics, the average annual cost of tuition, fees, and room and board for a bachelors degree at a public institution is about $20,000, while earning a bachelors degree at a non-profit private school costs about $41,000. Most schools publish tuition fees on their websites for comparison.
When comparing costs, its important to understand that programs can price tuition differently. You can typically find the most affordable tuition at public state-affiliated institutions, though youll usually pay more if youre an out-of-state student.
Dont forget to consider fees for background checks, fingerprinting, equipment, supplies, and more to fulfill clinical requirements.
Many BSN bridge programs are designed to accommodate the schedules of working nurses so you can continue earning money while you earn your degree.

Rn Licensure Nursing License Renewal And The Nurse Licensure Compact
The Registered Nurse or RN licensure process is similar in all states. Nursing students have to pass the NCLEX-RN exam to obtain RN licensure. Nursing students take the board exam after they have completed their registered nursing educational requirements. Nursing grads looking for RN licensure are required to apply for the examination and licensure. The student seeking RN licensure is required to send the application to a particular state licensing agency.
What is the Nurse Licensure Compact? The Nurse Licensure Compact is an agreement that enables mutual recognition of RN licenses among member states in the US. RNs from Nurse Licensure Compact member states can practice in other NLC member states without having to obtain additional licenses. NLC improves public access to healthcare and maintains public protection at the state level.
Remember that your nursing license expires on your birthday in even-numbered years. Online nursing license renewal allows you to renew your license even before it expires. You cannot practice with an expired license. You can begin practicing as soon as the nursing license renewal process is complete, processed, and your license is available for verification. You can renew your nursing license 90 days before expiration.

Certainly. Like any transfer student, your previous studies would be assessed to see if you meet our admission requirement. Any courses that have been taken that are determined to be equivalent will be credited toward the McGill University degree. A minimum of 60 credits must be taken at McGill University for us to grant a degree. While we often credit theory courses, we do not usually credit previous clinical nursing courses – this has to do with how we organize our clinical studies to meet entry-to- practice requirements and the goals of our curriculum.
