I’m A Good Student And There Are Many Opportunities

If you are a good student then we hope you join us in any of our health professional programs at McGill University. The health care team works together to provide the best care for our patients. Nurses are key members of this team. Because we have a 24 hour presence in the hospital, we play a major role in assessing and monitoring patients during critical times. We help people learn to live with their illness or illnesses so that they achieve as high a quality of life as possible. People come to see nurses to help them cope with day-to-day demands in life such as childrearing, learning about the body, and dealing with relationships. People trust nurses and tell us things they may not tell others. Because nurses look at strengths as well as problems, we are generally quite effective in helping people achieve their health goals.

If I Don’t Have French Can I Practice As A Nurse In Quebec

Quebec law requires that candidates seeking admission to provincially-recognized professional corporations must possess a working knowledge of the French language, that is, be able to communicate verbally and in writing in that language.

To demonstrate this capability, candidates will be required to pass an examination set by the Office de la langue française, unless they can show that three years of full-time instruction in a French post-primary school have been completed. Candidates who have completed their secondary education in Quebec in 1986 or later and have received their certificate from secondary school are exempt from writing the examination. The professional corporation will require this certificate, proof of attendance or of successful completion of the Office examination. The examination may be attempted by registered students during the two years prior to the date they receive a degree giving access to a professional corporation.

Graduates from McGill University School of Nursing who wish to practice elsewhere in Canada or in other countries are not required to meet the above language requirements.

Program Options For Going To Nursing School

You have two options for earning your nursing degree if you already hold a bachelors degree and they include:

  • Associates degree program : This will take you two years to complete . However, please note that although an ADN and BSN nursing degree both allow you to work as a registered nurse there are some differences. See the differences between the ADN & BSN degree here.
  • Second Degree/Accelerated Degree program: This is your best option! This program allows you to earn a bachelors degree in nursing in 1 ½ 2 years . These programs are being highly popular because of the demand of people who are pursuing nursing as a second career. The best way to find a second degree or accelerated degree program is to look at local nursing schools in your area and see if they have this type of program. Here is a list of nursing school by states.

The second degree/accelerated degree programs take approximately 5 semesters to complete, and sometimes a semester is during the summer. However, it is important to note that it could take an extra semester if you havent met the nursing programs pre-requisite course requirements. For example, say your bachelors degree is in English and you didnt take Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2 or Microbiology while earning your English degree. You would have to complete these classes before you enter into the nursing program.

Find Work With Psychiatric Patients

Since there isn’t really a way to specialize in psychology nursing in your education, if you want to work with psychiatric patients, you’ll want to find a job specifically in that area. This might mean working as a nurse in a psychiatric ward in a hospital or getting a job as a nurse in a mental health clinic.

Depending on what types of positions are available at facilities near you, it may take time to find the right type of position. You might decide to work in an emergency room, as even though there are many other types of patients, there are also a fair number of psychiatric patients who come to emergency rooms for help. This can give you exposure to the field in case you can’t find a position working only with psychiatry patients at first.
