The Arnot Ogden Medical Center School of Nursing can prepare you to answer that call through our program which has been training nurses since 1889. Our staff, who are RNs themselves, know the work of the nurse matters and are compassionate educators.

Throughout the program, students have the opportunity for direct patient interaction through clinical experience at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, which is coupled with in depth classroom training. After earning an Associate Degree, our nursing students are ready to work, to sit for the Registered Nurse boards or go on to earn advanced degrees such as Family Nurse Practitioner .

Applying to the Program

  • Upon completion, students are prepared to take RN boards
  • First step to getting an advanced degree such as Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Full-Time study program with classes Monday through Friday
  • Program can be completed in two academic years

  • Semesters begin in August and end in April

Arnot Ogden Medical Center Begins Nurse Residency Program

ELMIRA Arnot Ogden Medical Center is pleased to offer a nurse residency program for newly graduated nurses.

This program is designed to ease the transition of nurses from the classroom setting to the clinical practice environment, promoting quality and safety, and reducing turnover rates for first-year nurses.

Denise Berry-Talenti, DNP, CNE, CNM, RN, system director of education/school of nursing and nurse residency program coordinator, said, this 12-month program will increase nurse retention, decrease nursing burnout and increase quality of care.

Arnot Ogden is partnering with Vizient and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing to include this one-year program for every new nurse. It is facilitated by senior nurses who also serve as mentors to the nurse residents.

Goals of the program include teaching nurses decision-making skills related to clinical judgement and safety, providing clinical nursing leadership, in conjunction with the interprofessional team, at the point of care, and strengthening commitment to the profession of nursing.

Area Residents Graduate From Arnot School Of Nursing

The most recent graduates of the Arnot Health School of Nursing hold their diplomas and lamps.

On June 10, the Arnot Ogden Medical Center School of Nursing celebrated its 140th commencement, sending six new nurses into their careers.

The class was saluted for working hard and meeting the challenges of training during the pandemic. They were welcomed to the field of nursing by Arnot Health leadership, who reminded them that nursing is one of the most trusted, important careers anyone could undertake.

This years class is comprised of:

Ashley Applebee of Mansfield, Julie Ann Campbell of Athens, Renee Martin Gosselin of Lawrenceville, Genevieve L. Wade of Big Flats, N.Y., Courtney Robyn Ward of Dundee, N.Y., and Patrick Michael Wilcox of Elmira, N.Y.

Several awards were also announced:

  • The Caroline Prutsman Award Renee Gosselin
  • The Dr. R. Scott Howland Award Patrick Wilcox
  • The Student Association Award Courtney Ward
  • The Heart of Gold Award Genevieve Wade
  • The Professional Nurses of the Twin Tiers Award Courtney Ward

Arnot extends a special welcome to Renee Gosselin, Courtney Ward, Genevieve Wade and Patrick Wilcox, who will begin their careers at Arnot Health.

Arnot Ogden Medical Center – Medical Education offers full range of certification programs in the healthcare field. These includes the Residency Programs, Emergency Medical Services Training and programs under the Dr. Earl D. Smith School of Radiology and Arnot Ogden School of Nursing.

The School of Nursing is situated in the campus of the Arnot Ogden Medical Center at Elmira, New York. This school offers a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for a career as a professional nurse. Classes are held at the Teaching Center of L.D. Clute Education Building comprised of classrooms, nursing laboratory, lecture hall and conference room, computer laboratory and offices. Students are educated on theoretical instructions and are given the opportunity to experience hands-on training. They are equipped with the essential skills to perform holistic and competent nursing care.

Arnot Ogden School of Nursing is registered by the New York State Department of Education and has been awarded an accreditation status by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. This school is a partner of the Elmira College in Elmira, New York. Some of the courses in physical, biological, social sciences and humanities are taught in this school. Arnot Ogden nursing students can also use the facilities of the Elmira College.

Arnot Ogden Medical Center Nursing Program Review

Arnot Ogden Medical Center home to the Arnot Ogden School of Nursing was established in 1888. It is part of the Arnot Health Group consisting of 3 hospitals located in the Southern and Northern Tier of New York and Pennsylvania respectively. Arnot Ogden School of nursing was opened three years after the hospital following the increasing needs of nurses. The hospitals and the school of nursing are independent non-profit making organization committed to providing health care and hospital-based nurse training to the residents around it.

Nursing Programs at Arnot Ogden School of Nursing

The school of nursing offers two curriculum options for students who wish to become registered nurses. The school offers a 3-year nursing diploma program with options for fresh entry students and those who are already Licensed Practical Nurses . Both programs are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission and are registered by the New York State Department of Education. Students are advantaged to have Arnot Ogden Medical Center and other two Premier hospitals for clinical rotations and direct patient experience before they get out of school.

Arnot Ogden Medical Center School Of Nursing To Host Information Session

The Arnot Ogden Medical Center School of Nursing will host a free information session at 10 a.m. Oct. 15 at the Clute Education Building on campus, 600 Roe Ave., Elmira.

The program is aimed at area residents interested in learning more about nursing education and a career in the field.

The award is a memorial to a former director of nursing and is presented to that member of the graduating class who best demonstrated excellence in nursing practice and professionalism.

This award is presented by the Alumni Association to the member of the graduating class who attained the highest cumulative average of 3.5 or above.

Dr. R. Scott Howland Award Christine Austin

This is presented by the Obstetrics-Gynecology Department of the Arnot Ogden Medical Center and the Howland family to the member of the graduating class who has demonstrated outstanding proficiency in maternity nursing.

Isabelle Whitney Award Megan DePadua

This award is presented by the Arnot Ogden Auxiliary to the member of the graduating class who has demonstrated outstanding performance both scholastically and in clinical practice in honor of the first President and one of the founders of the organization.
