Where Can I Study Nursing To Become An Rn

There are 14 Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs in Ontario, which lead to registration as an RN. Several universities offer the second entry/compressed/accelerated option for students who started degrees in other subjects and want to transfer to nursing:

  • Lakehead University
  • McMaster University
  • Queens University
  • Trent University
  • University of Ottawa
  • University of Toronto
  • Western University
  • York University

There are typically specific course requirements to be earned in advance .

Prerequisite Coursework Minimum Content Requirements

English Composition/LiteratureSix semester hours of course work that emphasizes expository and critical writing, and utilizes selected works of literature for analysis and composition topics.

Human Growth and DevelopmentA three semester hour survey course of theory and research concerned with human growth and development from conception/birth through senescence and death. A course in child development will not fulfill this requirement. CLEP and Excelsior College exams taken after 2001 are acceptable.

Human AnatomyA four semester hour survey course of the physical structure of human cells, tissues, and organs. This may be a stand-alone human anatomy course or it may be a combined human anatomy and physiology course. If it is a stand-alone human anatomy course, a stand-alone human physiology course is also required. If it is a combined course, a second human anatomy and physiology course will be required to meet the minimum course content requirements. It must include a lab component. Comparative anatomy and physiology courses do not meet the minimum course content requirements.

MicrobiologyA four semester hour survey course of the morphology, structure, metabolism, and growth of microorganisms, including viruses, bacteria, protozoan, and parasites. Basic concepts of virology, epidemiology, and pathogenicity should be included. Must include a laboratory component.

Clinical Education And Simulation Lab

  • During a high-fidelity simulation, a faculty member provides remote support to nursing students to guide them through a variety of clinical scenarios.
  • Telepresence robots like this one are used for remote monitoring in CESiLs home-care suite as well as in the growing home healthcare field. They enhance both nursing and healthcare informatics students educational experience.
  • For College of Nursing and Public Health nursing students, learning in the various CESiL simulated settings and situations is like training in a real hospital. That experience was especially invaluable in the midst of the pandemic, nursing students said.
  • Here, a cohort of students addresses an emergency code situation with a high-fidelity manikin and gains experience in electronic medical record processes. Various manikins, supportive supplies and state-of-the-art equipment enable faculty and students to translate theory into practice.
  • Faculty use this pediatric manikin to train their students in everything from routine to emergency experiences. When used with an obesity suit, the manikin enables nurses to learn about the treatment of child obesity, a growing problem in the 6-to-9 age bracket.
  • Victoria, a high-fidelity maternal simulator manikin, arrived at CESiL with two baby manikins in March 2019able to simulate a complete range of situations that nurses may face in the delivery room, from typical neonatal care to obstetric emergencies.

Can I Do Internships Or Externships As A Nursing Student

Nursing students may take advantage of nursing externship programs offered at most hospitals and medical centers throughout the United States. Internships and externships are not required for successful passing of NCLEX-RN or securing a position following graduation. NYU Meyers’s Office of Student Affairs and Admissions maintains a listing of student nurse externship programs.

What Are The Important Differences Between Accelerated Nursing Programs

The objective of every accelerated nursing program is giving students the coursework and training they need to practice nursing in the shortest time possible. Every accelerated nursing program offers a fast-track degree. But there are nuances between accelerated nursing programs that make a difference for choosing the right program.

    • BA or BS? Some programs dont care about their students undergraduate majors. A BA in any field may be fine. Other programs expect their students already to hold a BS in a science field.
    • Start date. Most US academic programs start sometime between the middle of August and the first week of October, depending on the part of the country where the courses are held. Accelerated nursing programs tend to start in January or October, although summer start dates are also popular.
    • Online or on-campus? Some highly motivated students dont have any trouble learning essential nursing concepts from online classes. They will still need to go to campus or a teaching hospital for their clinical work, but they dont need to go to a physical classroom for their didactic work. Some students learn better in person-to-person interaction. These students should opt for brick-and-mortar classes with professors they see in person and students with whom they can more easily form relationships.

No matter what your undergraduate degree, you will need to have completed some accelerated nursing program prerequisites.

Heres a sample list of accelerated BSN prerequisites.

In fact, the Association of American Colleges and Universities has found that over one third of students transfer at least once. Additionally, just three percent of students who transfer from a two-year college to a four-year college complete a degree before transferring so its not at all uncommon to transfer into a degree pathway that more closely reflects your goals and passions.

    Criminal Background Check Policy

SDSU pre-nursing students mad over program change

All nursing students will be required to complete a series of clinical learning experiences in order to successfully meet the learning outcomes for a given program of study. Prior to participating in clinical learning experiences at any off-campus healthcare facility, students are required to complete a criminal background check and a drug test. Each clinical facility has policies regarding possible convictions and potential drug use that may bar students from being accepted at the facility for clinical placement. If a student is not accepted to an assigned placement because of the findings of a background check or drug screen, NYU Meyers does not guarantee an alternate clinical placement. College policy dictates that students who are unable to complete clinical requirements for any reason will be subject to dismissal from the program.

The process of obtaining a nursing license in New York and many other states may involve consideration of an applicants criminal history or other conduct . Criminal convictions and/or a record of certain other conduct may prevent a nursing student/graduate from being licensed and may preclude the nursing graduate from obtaining gainful employment as a nurse. Applicants to NYU Meyers are encouraged to determine, prior to matriculation, the licensure requirements in the state in which they intend to practice.

    Learn And Work In Detroit

In its study we mentioned earlier, the AACU found that 20 percent of students from two-year institutions, and 25 percent from four-year institutions, transferred to institutions that were in a new state.

If youre transferring to us from out of state, we can assure you that our location in metro Detroit is the best place to start your journey toward becoming a registered nurse.

With a population of more than four million people, Detroit is the second largest metropolitan area in the Midwest behind Chicago.

The Detroit area is full of entertainment options, outdoor recreational opportunities, and great restaurants. Its an exciting place to go out on the town or do some rural exploring. More importantly, the city has an evolving healthcare industry seeking qualified registered nurses who have BSNs, making it an excellent place to earn your ABSN.

Detroit is also home to Ascension Michigan, Madonnas academic practice partnership. During the 16-month ABSN program, you will complete clinicals to gain valuable in-hospital experience, from one of the Detroit areas top healthcare teams.

Ascension Michigan operates four hospitals and more than 125 medical facilities across the state of Michigan, offering ABSN students lots of opportunities to learn and grow in a number of healthcare settings.
